Pergola & Arbor Staining in Allen, TX
A staining project completed for two wood pergola structures on a residential property in Allen, TX — a garden arbor and a larger attached patio pergola. Both were treated with a light hypo wash and hand-brushed with a Walnut finish for even, rich coverage.
A Closer Look at This Project
This project covered two separate pergola structures on a residential property in Allen, TX — a garden arbor tucked under mature trees and a larger attached pergola shading the back patio and outdoor kitchen area. Overhead wood structures like these take extra sun exposure on the top slats, so keeping them properly sealed matters more than it does on a vertical surface like a fence.
Our crew started with a light hypo wash to clean the wood and prep it for stain, then hand-brushed the entire structure rather than spraying it — a slower process, especially on the top rafters and slats, but one that gets full, even coverage into every joint and angle a sprayer would miss. Between the two pergolas, the job took about 3 hours.
The finished result gives both structures a deep, rich tone that ties into the home’s brick and stonework, along with the UV and moisture protection the wood needs to hold up to direct sun year-round without graying or cracking.
